Godly Play, Jerome Berryman’s interpretation of Montessori religious education, is an imaginative approach to working with children. This approach supports, challenges, nourishes and helps guide their spiritual quest. Godly Play is different from many other approaches to children's work with scripture. One popular approach is having fun with scripture... Having superficial fun with scripture is fine, but children also need deeply respectful experiences with scripture if they are to fully enter into its power. If we leave out the heart of the matter, we risk trivializing the Christian way of life. We also miss the profound fun of existential discovery, a kind of "fun" that keeps us truly alive! Godly Play assumes that Children have some experience of the mystery of the presence of God in their lives, but that they lack the language, the permission and the understanding to express and enjoy that spiritual experience in our secular culture. In Godly Play, we enter into our parables, sacred stories, silence and liturgy in order to discover God, ourselves, one another and the world around us.

Healing and the Church

In this series of three sessions, we will explore various issues related to the healing ministry of the church. On November 8 we will use a study guide from the International Order of St. Luke the Physician to explore a few of the healing encounters with Jesus recorded in scriptures. On November 15, we will discuss the healing ministry of the church since that time. Finally, on November 22 we will discuss our healing ministries here at St. John’s. In this last session, Fr. Ed will discuss in particular the anointing and laying-on-of-hands that is available following communion on Sundays. Sessions are intended to build on each other, but each session can be attended separately.

Come join Episcopal Moms Together (EMT) for friendship, fellowship and laughs. An escape to join other moms in a relaxing environment. This group is open to moms of any age of children. We have studied a book together but mostly we talk and have fun. Childcare is provided during these meetings.
